STEM

REACH partnership.

We are very lucky that we are a partner school for the REACH Museum along with US Fish and Wildlife this year! Students at Marcus receive hands-on lesson taught at school by local experts. Our students get to visit the REACH museum to learn about local history and science. They receive field adventures that piggy-back on the classroom learning with real outdoor experiences. And we will be celebrating our learning at the end of the year by having our first annual Marcus Whitman Night at the REACH in the spring. Thank you to the Richland School Board for their continued support of STEM and our students at Marcus Whitman!

Weekly classroom STEM activities.

Every week, students at Marcus visit the STEM Lab! The STEM lab offers a weekly activity using the engineering design process. Students ask, imagine, plan, create, improve and present different projects and challenges. We also offer an optional take-home STEM ‘project of the month’ for students to engage in with parents.

Family science and engineering nights.

At Marcus Whitman, we not only want students to engage in STEM during the school day but also have opportunities to bring families in for a variety of events and activities. Some of our family activities include planetarium night, pacific science center, family engineering nights.

Students and Classroom Technology.

At Marcus Whitman, we have over 270 student use computers that we bring directly into the classrooms. Our goal is for teachers and students to use technology as tool to learn inside the classroom. Classroom technology includes chromebook carts, smart tables, smart boards, classroom amplification systems, and document cameras.
